Therapy in San Francisco
Liliana, a bilingual (Spanish) therapist who provides individual and couples therapy in San Francisco Bay Area California.
Hello there! My name is Liliana Ramos. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in California (LMFT 122378). You can click on my license number to verify my license with the California BBS. I have a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University. I offer online therapy in Spanish for Spanish-speaking adults, immigrants, and elders adults in Santa Clara County, San Jose, Fremont, and San Francisco. Ofrezco terrapia en español. Bilingual LMFT services in the Bay Area are genuinely rare.
I started specializing in anxiety and trauma after seeing how many of my early clients had never had a space where they could speak in Spanish and still feel fully understood. As an immigrant, I related to their experience of coming to a new country. In addition I learned that my clients, who were veterans, enjoyed working with someone who understood their experience and language. I’ve been working with these communities since 2017, during my training and in my private practice. My practice is fully online.
I help adults and couples who feel stuck in their lives or relationships. I work with you to identify the different parts of yourself and how you got to be the person you are today. Sometimes, we are going through life and find ourselves in a place where we wonder how we got here. You might be feeling overwhelmed, overworked, sleep-deprived, anxious, sad, irritable, and generally lost. You might even find yourself stuck in a relationship where you wonder where the two of you lost each other.
If you are coming to my website because you're anxious, grieving, experiencing trauma, or having a problem with relationships, I’ll work with you to look at your values, thoughts, feelings, behavior, and different parts. I like to work with you by integrating ACT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy), IFS (Internal Family Systems), and psychodynamic perspectives. For a more intense look at your challenges, we can use EMDR or Brainspotting. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help people process and heal from the trauma that is stuck in their bodies. Brainspotting was developed by David Grand, who was an EMDR certified clinician. Brainspotting is a technique that identifies, processes, and releases emotional pain and trauma stored deep in the body and brain. Both have been proven to be successful when done online.
If you are a couple, I integrate the Couple’s Institute Developmental Model and the Gottman model to help you with your communication and connection. I hold a Level 2 training in both the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy from the Couples Institute and Gottman model. The Gottman Method training ensures that our couples work has a clear, evidence-based roadmap. I will talk to each of you individually and together. Why individually? I believe that sometimes when we’re having a difficult time connecting, you might want your own time to get your point of view out. During this time, I’ll listen to you so that I can better understand each of your points of view. Then we begin working as a team. I’m more directive when I’m working with couples. I might be compassionate and empathetic, but I’ll point out where you need to improve, help you practice better ways of communication, work as a team, and help you find ways where you can see each other again as lovers and friends. I’ll be your guide as you find your way back to each other. I also provide premarital counseling if you are preparing for marriage.
Who am I? Why should you trust me?
I’m an immigrant and a military veteran who got her bachelor’s degree while raising kids and serving in our military. My pronouns are she-her-ella. Then in 2018, I earned a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University. I was licensed in 2020. after gaining 3000 clinical hours working in community health organizations, providing support to adults, children, and their parents in schools and in the office. I have also worked at a group practice serving military veterans and their families. I have experience serving the LGBTQ+, immigrant, and military communities.
I am a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), American Association of Marriage and Family Therapist (AAMFT), and Association of Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS). These organizations allow me to stay up to date with changes in the field. CAMFT helps me with changes in state law. AAMFT assists me with changes in national law. Both organizations have legal teams and classes that assist me in making ethical and legal decisions. ACBS keeps me up-to-date with new behavioral techniques in ACT.
My deep connection with military veterans and immigrants sets my practice apart from others. Understanding your unique struggles allows me to offer empathetic and insightful guidance, fostering trust and understanding. If you're a veteran or immigrant, please know that you're entering a safe space where your experiences are understood, not judged, in my online therapy room.
